127.0.0.1 and other 127.0.0.0 network addresses do not belong to any of the private IP address ranges defined in IPv4. Individual addresses in those private ranges can be dedicated to local network devices and use for inter-device communication, whereas 127.0.0.1 cannot.

Mar 30, 2006 · as stated in another answer, the 127.0.0.1 is refering to your own computer, it is the IP address that always refers back to ones own computer. every computer basicaly has at least 1 IP address, + the 127.0.0.1, which is used for testing and refering to your own machine via IP without knowing the real IP.
